THORS #2 – MARVEL COMICS – (W) Jason Aaron (A) Chris Sprouse
In case I didn’t make it abundantly clear last time, the absolute biggest drawcard for this series is the line that Aaron has drawn (and blurred) between the God of Thunder and an episode of NYPD Blue. Since reading issue 1, I’ve picked up and read the first hardcover of his run on the regular Thor title, and it’s easy to see how comfortable he is writing the character, making the transition to this spin off title that much smoother and more engaging. After seeing Beta Ray Thor off in the most Asgardian way possible, we get down to the business of locating the rest of the Fosters in our hunt for the killer. Ultimate Thor, Kermit the Throg and some kind of indecently awesome Wolfman Thor uncover another dead body, this one just happens to be a male. Stands to reason, we’ve got She-Thor and Storm Thor running around, they wouldn’t ALL have a thing for Jane Foster, right? Our first (primary and only) suspect shows up as well, a familiar face which didn’t take too much guessing to predict, but that doesn’t detract from the story at all. The dialogue and writing in this is absolutely killer, and the art is clear and polished. If not the number one Secret Wars tie in, then a very, very close contender.
