AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS #3 – MARVEL COMICS – (W) Dan Slott (A) Adam Kubert

Peter’s secret is out, Spidey is still around and Regent wants him, valuing his power set above all others. As we’ve already established in the series, Pete’s primary focus is to keep his family safe and he immediately attempts to cover his tracks and return them all hiding and a life of powerless normality. Regent’s Sinister Six squad have made the connection between Spidey and his daughter though, and attempt to flush him out by staging a mass-inquisition at Annie’s school. What follows are some wonderfully powerful and moving panels, culminating in one which I found particularly touching as a father. The factors which called Pete to abandon his hero duties, are now pressing him to return, to do good, to save, to have responsibility. God it was good. Kubert’s work is lovely, a wonderful example of straight forward comic book art, clean, clear and expressive. The issue ends as you can only expect it would, but that means that things are just picking up for the Parkers. I expect the next two issues to deliver big time.
