AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS #2 – MARVEL COMICS – (W) Dan Slott (A) Adam Kubert

A couple of years have passed since the events of issue 1, Regent rules the city (most likely the world), any remaining Supers are in hiding, suppressing their powers and Peter is still haunted by his actions involving Venom. I was totally on board with his choice last issue, highlighting the altered sense of responsibility felt by a family man, but it’s cool to see him still tossing over his actions. His daughter Annie May has started exhibiting powers of her own, and will be detected, captured and most likely devoured by Regent if she’s not careful. It’s a different sort of concern than the kind I have for my kids, by Slott captures it well in both Pete and MJ, and balances it with standard parental goofiness. Pete is forced to break cover for the first time in years here, putting him squarely in Regents sights, but the drawcard for me is totally the family dynamic, and the little things that give me a warm/fuzzy deal inside. Premier Spider-title out of the whole Secret Wars gamut.
